What is it to you..[love]

To write often is like feeling. Or perhaps I should say, it is an expression of feeling. And to write what it is we feel never seems to do it justice effectively. It is the same way in feeling. Have you ever cried so long or laughed so hard and still it failed to impress upon the full weight of how you felt? It’s never enough but it has to do for even in an infinite world, we are limited. And I am given to the thought that maybe reincarnation isn’t just about good karma. Maybe, we have to live again and again to ever fully feel in this world.

For me, the biggest maybe and utmost certainty is love. Of which, I am woefully equipped and subsequently unmanned. Yet all the day, my every heart beat provides.

What is it to you, I’ll ask… that leaves you bereft of expression, lost in feeling and in need of several lifetimes to endure?

*“Love is a form of prejudice. You love what you need, you love what makes you feel good, you love what is convenient. How can you say you love one person when there are ten thousand people in the world that you would love more if you ever met them? But you’ll never meet them. All right, so we do the best we can. Granted. But we must still realize that love is just the result of a chance encounter.”
-Charles Bukowski, Hot Water Music

“Our hearts will break – time and time and time again – over the course of our feeble existences. But they never break irreparably. They never shatter in ways we can’t fix. Our hearts are stronger than all of the things that ever break them, if we give them permission to be.”
-Heidi Priebe, All Of The Things That Can Break Your Heart (Besides A Person)

“I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”
-John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

“In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.”
-Maya Angelou, Touched By An Angel Poem

“I want to kiss the kindness inside you. I want you to be loved in the exact way you love. We’re both ready with our, “You met me at a really weird time in my life…” monologues and I want to rehearse lines with you.”
-Ari Eastman and Ari Eastman, I’m Already Invested In You, And That Terrifies Me

“I know now, after fifty years, that the finding/losing, forgetting/remembering, leaving/returning, never stops. The whole of life is about another chance, and while we are alive, till the very end, there is always another chance.”
-Jeanette Winterson, Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?

“Love is supposed to change you, and it will. This is how we determine the quality of a relationship: by the person we become when we’re in it. People always say the opposite – that you should never change for someone else – but with the right person, you will evolve rapidly. The right person will show you the very best parts of you, and you’ll want to be your best self for them.

This is the kind of love worth choosing, worth sacrificing for: not that which accepts unconditionally, but which sees the best in you, and inspires you to be more, and more, and more. This is the kind of love you want to last a lifetime. The kind that you will get to the end of your days and think: I would be a fraction of the person I am had I not been with them.”

-Brianna Wiest, A Fraction of the Whole

“The truth is that the more intimately you know someone, the more clearly you’ll see their flaws. That’s just the way it is. This is why marriages fail, why children are abandoned, why friendships don’t last. You might think you love someone until you see the way they act when they’re out of money or under pressure or hungry, for goodness’ sake. Love is something different. Love is choosing to serve someone and be with someone in spite of their filthy heart. Love is patient and kind, love is deliberate. Love is hard. Love is pain and sacrifice, it’s seeing the darkness in another person and defying the impulse to jump ship.”
-Melanie Williams, Our Filthy Heart

“Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. That’s why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don’t risk anything, you risk even more.”
-Erica Jong, Fear of Flying

“What we call the beginning is often the end
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
The end is where we start from.”
-T. S. Eliot, “Little Gidding,” Four Quartets

“Will it hurt? Will it matter if it does?”
-Tyler Knott Gregson, Chasers Of The Light

“Until we have begun to go without them, we fail to realize how unnecessary many things are. We’ve been using them not because we needed them but because we had them.”
-Seneca, Letters from a Stoic

“If you had a friend you knew you’d never see again, what would you say? If you could do one last thing for someone you love, what would it be? Say it, do it, don’t wait. Nothing lasts forever.”
-Brooke Davis, One Tree Hill

“Love is not the absence of logic
but logic examined and recalculated
heated and curved to fit
inside the contours of the heart.”
-Tammara Webber, Easy

“Remember that you were art long before he came to admire you, and you’ll continue to be art even when he’s gone.”
-Charlotte Geier, via Tumblr

“It is a tuesday when I love someone who doesn’t love me. No, it’s not the first time, but it’s a sad time. Oh, it’s always a sad time but my heart doesn’t listen, doesn’t understand, soars like a child in a rocket ship, doesn’t believe in gravity. Doesn’t believe in learning a lesson. Wants to give until there is nothing left but glitter.”
-Yena Sharma Purmasir, four of thirty

“Kiss me and you will see how important I am.”
-Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals Of Sylvia Plath

“If you can love someone with your whole heart, even one person, then there’s salvation in life. Even if you can’t get together with that person.”
-Haruki Murakami, 1Q84

“There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment.”
-Sarah Dessen, The Truth About Forever

“You torment yourself wondering how they could not love your burning heart; and the answer is darling, you are not the star you thought you were. You are the fucking universe.”
-Marimontoya, via Tumblr
